HISTORICAL SUMMARY
Currently, we differentiate the Setter from the Spaniel, but in the 17th century this difference was not so clear and the name “Setter” was used to encompass all of them. but in the 17th century this difference was not so clear and the name “Setter” was used to encompass all those dogs that were trained to show where the prey of the hunt were. Over the years, the breed has been redefining itself and what we know today as English Setter began to differentiate itself by its peculiar way of hunting: approaching its prey stealthily crouching or lying down.

BEHAVIOR AND TEMPERAMENT: Active, has a keen sense for hunting. Friendly in nature and of good character.
HEAD:
CRANIAL REGION
Skull: Oval in shape between the ears.
Stop : Well defined.
FACIAL REGION
Snout: Smoothly concave, giving an appearance upturned (dish-face).
Nose: Black or liver.
Jaws and Teeth: Scissor bite with strong jaws.
Lips: Fair and developed.
Eyes: Colored between hazel and dark brown, the darker the better. Oval in shape.
Ears : Low set, medium length, upper part covered with fine hairs.
NECK : Long, arched and muscular neck. Free from dewlap.
TRUNK
Top Row: Level.
Back: Well developed.
TAIL: Almost level with the back, medium length, not exceeding the hocks. Slightly curved, but not rising. The tail in flag, has long hanging fringes. These fringes start slightly below the root of the tail and increase in length in the middle, tapering gradually to the tip. The hair is long, shiny, soft and silky, wavy but not curled.

By: Slightly wavy, without being curly, long and silky, as it is usually the coat.
COLOR: Black and white (belton blue), orange and white (orange belton), lemon and white (lemon belton), liver and white (liver belton) or tricolor.

FAULTS
