  • HISTORICAL SUMMARY

Bulldogs were bred for the English sport of bull-slaying, practiced from approximately 1100 to 1835. By the mid-1800s, the sport was no longer legal, and the athletic bulldog quickly began to disappear. As the bulldog was revived solely for the location of conformation, selective breeding for appearance seriously compromised the health and lifespan of this agile, athletic, and happy breed.

In 1971, a breeding project began using a line breeding scheme to quickly achieve a purebred dog. The aim of this project was to return the bulldog to the appearance of the Bulldog, now called Olde English Bulldogge (OEB) to clearly differentiate the new breed from the modern English Bulldog.

Country of Origin: USA.

BEHAVIOR AND TEMPERAMENT:  The former bulldog's temperament is confident, courageous and alert. The OEB (Olde English Bulldogge) is very friendly and loving. They are extremely strong and occasionally show the same aggression in both sexes so socialization and obedience training are important. It's better to channel  high energy for some types of work and exercise.
