  HISTORICAL SUMMARY:

The rustic handling combined with a strong  selection pressure in beef and dairy farms in Minas Gerais, formed the current lines of Bullmastiff Brasileiro.  The individuals chosen were those of the breeds: Dogue de Bourdeaux, Bullmastiff Ingles, Rottweiler, American Pit Bull Terrier, crossed with traditional Filas Brasileiros found in Fazendas Mineiras, during the period of formation of the breed between 1988 and 2005. The individuals selected after the crossing with Filas, provided genetic material for the task of rescuing typical specimens called: Bull & Mastiff's that existed in several places in Europe and also in Brazil during the period between the 19th century until the end of the 20th century.

The breed was developed for working on farms, and its conformation is flexible, allowing selection based on temperament. The temperament and the combination of elegance, softness and loyalty are the most desirable characteristics of the breed.
