Serrano Bulldog

GENERAL APPEARANCE : Solid looking dog, massive, stocky, but giving the impression of great agility. Long muscles that denote the dog's agility.

 

Personality:  Agile, alert and intelligent.

 

Energy Level : Very Active.  This dog is active and energetic, and needs daily exercise.  

 

Good with children:  Yes.

 

Good with other dogs:  With supervision.

 

Grooming:  Seasonal.

 

Life Expectancy : 10-12  years old.

 

Bark level:  Bark when necessary.

 

Country of Origin: Brazil.

BEHAVIOR AND TEMPERAMENT:  Docile and sweet dog with the people of the house. Balanced, attentive and versatile guardian. It must possess extreme courage and show submission to discipline before its owner. You must not show gratuitous aggression towards people or dogs. But, it must be fearless when provoked or on command.

IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS:   The length of the body should exceed the height at the withers by approximately eighteen percent. The depth of the chest should be approximately 55% of the height at the withers. The head should be proportionate to the size of the dog and its length should be approximately 35% of the length of the torso. Females tend to be minimally longer and have a proportionately smaller head.

 

HEAD :  It should be neither heavy nor light. long. Masseters must be powerful; zygomatic arch broad, but not exaggerated, and should protrude in relation to the width of the muzzle
 

  • CRANIAL REGION  
     

skull :  Wide and deep, but not exaggerated in any proportion. It should have a straight outline on the line between the ears and convex on the line from the occiput to the stop.

Stop : Deep.

  • FACIAL REGION

 

Snout:  It should have an approximate length of 1/3 of the total head, skull to muzzle ratio is 2:1. Straight, relatively wide. The width of the zygomatic arch should be  stand out in relation to that of the muzzle, but this proportion should not be exaggerated.

Truffle:  Black, gray or flesh color.

Jaws and Teeth:  Undershot, the lower jaw extends beyond the upper jaw, but without exaggerated undershot.

Eyes: Oval, any color except blue.  


Ears : Small, semi-drooping or hanging, with relatively thin skin, high implant.

Lips: Short, tight. They should in no way be long or hanging down.

NECK :  Thick, strong, of medium length. Devoid of dewlap.

  • TRUNK
     

Top Line:  straight

Back: Relatively short.
 

Croup: Strong and round, with convex topline.  
 

Ribs : Well sprung.

Forechest : Ample .

TAIL:  In corkscrew or screwed. Dogs whose tails are born long should not be penalized, which, in this case, must be straight and with a low carriage, if they are not operated on. Average insertion.

  • MEMBERS

PREVIOUS :   

Shoulders: Broad, muscular and oblique.

Arms: Has  muscular, but not overly defined or developed muscles.

 

Paws:  Slightly turned out.
 

HINDQUARTERS : Muscular and well angulated,

Thighs: Well developed and muscular.

 

Hocks: Obligatory angulation in the hocks, but moderate.

 

Paws :  Facing forward.

  • COAT

Skin:  The dog must not have loose skin on any part of the body, allowing for minimal wrinkles on the face.

 

Hair : Smooth, medium texture (neither too soft nor too hard). Short hair.  

  • COLOR:  Any color or color variation is accepted.
     

SIZE :  Males: from 50 to 56 cm.
            Females: from 48 to 53 cm.
           

  • FAULTS  

Any deviation from the terms of this standard should be considered a fault and penalized in exact proportion to its severity and its effects on the health and well being of the dog.  

• Any disproportionate, exaggerated characteristic that may interfere with physical activity or work ability.
• Any dog that shows any sign of physical or behavioral anomaly must be disqualified.

  • GRADES

 

• Males must have both testicles, of normal appearance, well let down and accommodated in the scrotum.

• Only clinically and functionally healthy dogs with typical breed conformation should be used for breeding.
